Motto:"ICT: Now for the future"Mission:
To sensitize all stakeholders in education on the positive impact of ICT a tool for learning, developing and executing policies that allow for the development of critical thinkers, effective communicators and active citizens for the 21st century and beyond. Objectives: 1. To encourage, screen, monitor and supervise ICT integration in the teaching/learning process throughout schools in SVG. 2. To make recommendations on ways to strengthen ICT integration in schools, both at the Preschool, Primary and Secondary levels in SVG by advising on or giving training to teachers and other stakeholders in education. 3. To recognise, reward and celebrate successes in the positive integration of ICT in the curriculum by acknowledging entities that have revolutionized the classroom experience. Rationale: The world has become seemingly smaller since it is now viewed as a global village. Several factors have contributed to this, but chief amongst them is the ease with which communication is now carried out. The age of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has given access to computers, mobile devices and the Internet; this revolution has redefined the way we communicate, work, study and even merely socialise. In order to equip our society with the skills for global citizenship the government of SVG has embarked on an ICT integration initiative that includes the recent distribution of net books to children from Grades 2 to 7. In addition, several trainings sessions have been offered in the use of ICT in education to foster the vision of effective integration. |
Vision:
An urgent need for an on-going systematic approach to support ICT integration was identified, hence the establishment of St Vincent and the Grenadines Committee for the Integration of Technology in Education (SVGCITE).
SVGCITE is a team of teachers, Curriculum Officers and IT Coordinators committed to aiding, supporting and fostering the development of ICT integration in the everyday classroom. We are a dedicated team of 15 members with some having teaching experience of over 25 years. The world is ever changing, children of yesterday are not the children of today and as a result teaching methods must also reflect this metamorphosis. Studies have shown that ICT is a major contributor to educational development. A variety of techniques must be used to ensure the success of these ICT enabled lessons. The sharing of knowledge, collaboration among teachers, professional development sessions are three such mediums by which the success if ICT integration can be achieved. Moreover, the overarching goal is to develop individuals that are critical thinkers, problem solvers and discovery learners, making them lifelong learners and active citizens in this modern world. |
