INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTES
The Ministry of Education continues to be concerned about the development and maintenance of high standards of teaching and learning in schools. The role of the Principal as Instructional Leader is
paramount for school improvement. Monitoring and supervision of
the Teaching/ Learning environment is therefore crucial and hence should be regular and systematic. Schools have been encouraged to draw up and implement School Development Plans, and, as part of this process, undertake a regular process of self-assessment.
As you have been made aware at various fora, the Ministry conducted training of Inspectors in 2011 in preparation for the setting up of a system of school inspection and supervision. Such a system will
provide the Ministry with regular reports on the state of teaching and learning, as well as school administration and management, at least in those schools inspected. Such reports will form the basis of one aspect of school self-assessment, and may provide useful lessons for other schools. Senior Education Officers and School Principals will encouraged to find ways to both follow up the formal reports and use these as models for action in other schools. It is recognised that there are serious resource limitations, and that it will be impossible to
institute a system for inspecting more than a relatively small number of schools each year. Nevertheless, the issue of quality in relation to teaching and learning is now of crucial importance within the system.
The Ministry Education has therefore organised a training workshop for principals, head teachers deputy principals and other educational leaders on Instructional Leadership and school supervision. During this workshop, participants will be apprised of the role and process of School Inspection and beguided towards the development of a structured system of monitoring and supervision for the individual
school.
This workshop will be held during the week February 18th – 21st, 2013 and February 25th – 28th, 2013 in order to accommodate two different groups. It will be held at Frenches House from 8.30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. daily. The attached schedule will indicate the persons who will attend each workshop.
Please pay close attention and adhere to the designated week to
which you have been assigned.
